Make Your Christmas List Budget Friendly!

January 22nd, 2010

Christmas was rough for many people in 2008 and 2009.  Many people didn’t even have enough money to put food on the table or a roof over their head, let alone have money to purchase fancy Christmas gifts.  So, what if we are presented with this same problem in 2010?  No worries…  We are here to provide you with some tips to help make your christmas list more “budget friendly”.

1)  You should make it clear to your family and friends that it is perfectly fine to give and receive books and DVD’s that are “used”.  What a great way to pass on information, knowledge, and fun, and yet not incure the expense.

2)  If there is something that you feel you just must have, or would like to give, but it’s way too expensive for your own personal budget then why not consider teaming up with others.  If you can’t swing that $100 for a nice stereo system, but the $50 you had in mind will only get you junk, maybe your Uncle Al would like to contribute the other $50 and you could put both your names on the Christmas card.

3)  Make it clear that it is fine to give and receive only one item for Christmas.  In this way, the total expense will be on one special item to remember, not “nickel and dimed” over many little gifts.

4)  Time is money.  Many of us have money to do things, but no extra time.  Why not offer to baby sit, or mow the lawn, or take out the trash, or walk the dog.  Many of the people on your gift list would rather have your time and help than your money.
