Web users can play free online games with friends

February 20th, 2010

Relaxing and blowing off steam with friends is a great way of sharing support, reducing the effects of various personal problems and dealing with stress in general. Unfortunately, schedule conflicts and physical distance make it difficult for most people to get together with friends face to face as often as they would like. Recent Internet innovations such as Facebook help to solve this problem, but if everyone involved in a conversation is tired or discouraged, each participant is bound to run out of things to say at some point. Wouldn’t it be if they could just play free games together instead?

Free online games have been around for quite a while, but they have predominantly been games in which the player competes against a scoreboard, the computer, or oneself. With games that require payment, players have been able to compete interactively for some time, but people who are new to video games may not even know what sort of games they like. These days, thanks to something called leaderboard enablement, friends and others can compete against each other in free games through Facebook!

The varieties and difficulty levels of free games to play online are almost unlimited. Friends can solve mysteries together, simulate fights with each other, or even find out who can throw a virtual cat the farthest, and it’s all in good fun. Since games are designed for players of all ages, children can play with each other, and parents can play against their kids. Be careful, though, Mom or Pop: you may find that Junior’s reflexes are faster than yours. As a side note, it should not be inferred here that all games are suitable for all ages of players. This is because adults require more complex challenges - it’s not that children should not view these games, merely that they won’t enjoy playing them as much as some others.

When many of us were children ourselves, games such as these were viewed as time wasters by people who had never tried them. Well, the world has changed, and online games have changed as well. No one can keep his or her nose to the grindstone every waking minute, and every one deserves to have a little fun, even on a dreary Tuesday night with three feet of snow on the ground outside. Now that people have recognized the virtues of free video games, the games themselves have come of age.
