Is it time for you to quit your job?
July 6th, 2010
You have been contemplating if you should quit your job and start to re-think your five-year plan. You have been saying this to yourself for the past five years. Whenever you think about resigning, you think of the things you can do while you are still unemployed – tour the world, sleep all day, party all night, in order words – FREEDOM! You can be with friends 24/7 unlike the times when you always bail out because you have a meeting in the morning or your preparing a report which needs to be looked at urgently. You can read all the books that you have bought but did not have the chance to read because you are always working on a project. You can cook the dishes you love to eat but cannot find the time before. Back to reality, you think about the benefits you will lose if you leave the company like the health benefits, your car, clothing allowance and more. However getting all these perks but without no job satisfaction would be meaningless. You decided to check the internet about benefits for long term unemployed. The Department of Labor has provided a list of categories which aligns job positions depending on their skill and their unemployment benefits. While surfing the internet, you also stumbled upon a website stating that unemployment benefits are taxable. The only exemption to be made is on your first $2400. With all this information in hand, you can now decide if the benefits provided for the unemployed will suit you for the next couple of years or if you should consider being a freelancer, no pressure and you own your time. Make no mistake!
